Global Crossing Opens Point of Presence Telecommunications Facility in Helsinki

London - December 6, 2006 -- Global Crossing, a leading global IP solutions provider, announced today the opening of a new Point of Presence (PoP) facility in Helsinki, Finland, that provides customers with direct access to global IP solutions over Global Crossing's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP-based network. The PoP is already operational and serving customers in Europe.

The Helsinki PoP is a business gateway from the Baltics and Russia to Western Europe and provides customers with network access to Finland. The new PoP gives carrier and enterprise customers in the region direct access to Global Crossing's network and is part of Global Crossing's continued expansion of its MPLS network, which includes PoPs connecting all major financial and business capitals across Europe. Global Crossing's network delivers state-of-the-art global IP solutions, with direct access to more than 600 cities in 60 countries on six continents.

"Our new Helsinki PoP enhances Global Crossing's market-leading position in the region among the ISP and carrier community," said Pieter Duijves, managing director, Europe. "There has been a huge surge in IP traffic and we have responded to the increasing customer demand by establishing this newest PoP facility. As demand for IP services grows, Global Crossing is well-positioned with a robust and scaleable network to serve our European customers in the region."

Global Crossing's IP traffic increased 126 percent between the third quarter of 2005 and the third quarter of 2006. According to TeleGeography Research, the rate of growth in international IP traffic at an industry level between mid 2005 and mid 2006 was 75 percent.

"We expect the surge in IP traffic to continue with the key driver being higher end-user needs for services, such as content downloads, streaming and faster Internet access," said Dag Aanensen, area vice president of carrier sales, Global Crossing. Now, Internet Service Providers will be able to deliver far greater capacity to their customers.

As a result of the continued adoption of IP services by enterprise and carrier customers, Global Crossing has seen extraordinary growth of demand for capacity in Europe. Aina Communications, an ISP in Finland, has signed up as the first customer to use the PoP to provide IP services to its subscribers.

Global Crossing is reaping the benefits of being an early adopter of an all IP network. It is well-positioned to meet the high rates of IP traffic growth. It has deployed 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) PoPs worldwide, and has implemented an IP Supercore platform supporting the increasing demand for high bandwidth IP services. The company has deployed 10GigE PoPs across Europe in Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
