Siemens and Global Crossing UK Extend Agreement for Next Generation Communications

London - June 20, 2006 -- Siemens Communications and Global Crossing (UK) have today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop and market a range of managed services hosted on Siemens' award-winning HiPath 8000 Softswitch platform. These hosted services will be targeted at both public sector and commercial organisations in the UK, and will enable cost effective customer access to the clear benefits of converged IP-based next generation communications.

This agreement builds on the successful partnership between Siemens and Global Crossing in the UK, focusing on providing innovative communication solutions for Government departments since 1996. In 2004 Siemens and Global Crossing successfully partnered to supply and deliver the IP-enabled telephony solution which enables flexible working for more than 110,000 users in HM Government departments. This deployment resulted in Siemens Communications' being awarded the UK's highest profile award for business, the 2006 Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation.

"This agreement is further evidence of Siemens' and Global Crossing's commitment to further strengthening a partnership committed to delivering innovative business solutions," explains David Leighton, Marketing Director, Siemens Communications. "Fully open standard IP telephony will allow organisations to enhance their business capabilities and move to an efficient cost structure. The HiPath 8000 is the world leader in delivering secure, managed communications and is a core component of LifeWorks, Siemens' vision of creating a highly collaborative communications environment based on true open standards."

Phil Metcalf, managing director of Global Crossing UK, said: "This next phase of our 10-year relationship with Siemens clearly underlines our joint commitment to evolve the services we provide to our extensive base of managed service customers. This agreements taps into our vast experience in meeting the government sector's evolving need for converged, IP-based communications to bring a hosted VoIP solution to a wider set of customers, including local government and corporate users."
