Global Crossing Colombia Selected Security Provider for National Education Ministry
Solution centralizes security for institution's applications and portals, housed in Global Crossing's data center.
Bogotá, Colombia, May 28, 2008 - Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that it has been selected by the National Education Ministry (NEM) to provide, maintain and manage its information security processes and platforms. This holistic solution, supported by Juniper Networks technology, will allow the Education Ministry to minimize risks related to information security, confidentiality and integrity.
The 36-month contract for data center services, which was signed in December 2007, encompasses centralized security for the ministry's applications and portals including "Colombia Learns," as well as solutions distributed throughout the organization's 82 sites that operate nationwide through Education Secretariats. Two years ago, the ministry began its modernization process, becoming a model for development at the national level. With this deal, Global Crossing is now officially a technological partner of the Education Ministry, placing its entire solutions portfolio at the agency's disposal to support modernization of its information technology initiatives.
"Relying on a technological infrastructure that can provide robust performance, high availability, managed security and room for expansion will allow the ministry to continue modernizing. Global Crossing has been essential in the offering of information services to all of the agency's entities at the national and institutional levels - for both elementary and secondary education," said Javier Torres Paez, head of the Education Ministry's Technology Office. "This deal enables the National Education Ministry to obtain security conditions that guarantee information security. Additionally, Global Crossing's infrastructure also benefits the large number of users that access Web portals such as the Education Secretariats' Information Systems and the National Higher Education Information System on a daily basis."
Today, the ministry boasts robust, high availability solutions monitored 24x7, including firewall, intruder detection and prevention, antivirus and anti-spam capabilities, as well as periodical vulnerability analysis, among other features.
This integral solution is supported by equipment from Juniper Networks - a leader in high-performance networking which provides integrated security to mitigate risks associated with connecting and delivering critical applications to the company through the network. These products include integrated Firewall/IPSec VPN devices that carry out essential security functions, VPN SSL equipment that provides secure access through the extended company, intrusion-prevention products that proactively identify and halt attacks at the network and application levels, and Network Access Control (NAC) solutions that bring together final points with user and network identity to manage security policies ranging from the network core to outer edges in real-time.
