OVUM Sees Global Crossing's Growth in Positive Light
Global Crossing's strategy to 'Invest and Grow' its revenue from enterprise, carrier data and indirect channels is "clearly bearing fruit." At least that's the opinion of OVUM analyst David James, who in a recent commentary* on the company's first full-quarter results concluded that "Global Crossing is one company that has successfully transformed itself to take advantage of the global moves to IP-based networking…specifically the use of VoIP for carriage of voice and IP VPNs for enterprise networking."
On May 10, Global Crossing announced its 2007 first quarter results, as well as the completion of its acquisition of Impsat, a leading provider of telecommunications network and Internet services in Latin America. This also was the first full quarter that included results from the company's acquisition of European network operator Fibernet, a provider of specialist telecommunications networks to large enterprises and other telecommunications and Internet service companies. James' analysis of Global Crossing's results included a recap of the company's financials, as well as highlights of its network metrics - among them that Global Crossing's IP traffic grew 176% year-over-year, while its VPN traffic increased 147% compared with the first quarter of 2006.
James went on to comment: "The Fibernet acquisition has boosted the company's assets, revenues and customer base in the UK and Germany, while the next quarter will be the first to include earnings from Impsat. The acquisitions of both Fibernet and Impsat fit well with Global Crossing's existing network footprint and IP service portfolio.
"The company continues to invest in developing and enhancing its IP-based services," James continued, "with increased availability of its VoIP services and reduced service provisioning times for certain wholesale services. It has also improved its IP VPN solution with additional features for monitoring and control.
"No company can afford to stay still in these times of dramatic change," James concluded, using Global Crossing as an example of a company that is successfully navigating these times.
